Traffic Safety Awards

The Vision Zero Traffic Safety Awards recognize law enforcement, transportation representatives, engineers, public health representatives, and other traffic safety agencies from across the state for their commitment to traffic safety. The awards are for those who show outstanding service and dedication to accomplish the overall goal of Vision Zero, to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads for the period of October 1, 2022 - September 30, 2023

Recipients will be recognized during the Vision Zero Partner Conference on April 3, 2024.

Traffic Safety Officer of the Year
This award is for a single officer who has displayed a well-rounded effort for traffic safety through enforcement, community education and training.

Law enforcement officers who have demonstrated a commitment to enforcing traffic safety laws will be awarded a commemorative coin for their efforts. The SFN 59114 application form will need to be completely filled out, along with a few nomination questions that describe the contributions the officer has made to traffic safety during that fiscal year. 

Officers nominated for the Commemorative Coin will also be considered for Traffic Safety Officer of the Year.

Commemorative Coin

Beyond the Traffic Stop
This award honors officers who used outstanding investigative skills that led to multiple arrests for narcotics, stolen property, and/or outstanding warrants from a single routine traffic stop.

Media Awards
This award is for the reporters/news organizations that have been fair, balanced and informative in reporting transportation/traffic-related issues on radio, television, newspaper or internet/social media.

Emergency Medical Services
This award was designed to recognize EMS providers for their commitment and dedication to keeping North Dakota roads safe.

Child Passenger Safety Technician Awards
This award recognizes Child Passenger Safety Technicians and/or instructors for their commitment to child passenger safety.

Vision Zero School of the Year Award
This award recognizes a school for its dedication to becoming a Vision Zero School and establishing a culture of personal responsibility where motor vehicle fatalities are viewed as preventable.

Outreach Awards
This award is for the individuals and/or organizations that have gone above and beyond and actively play a role in decreasing motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries through their outreach and education to support Vision Zero.

This award recognizes outstanding service to the community, information technology, safety, public affairs and/or consumer education programs throughout the state of North Dakota in the area of traffic safety.
