Traffic Safety Awards

The Vision Zero Traffic Safety Awards recognize law enforcement, transportation representatives, engineers, public health representatives, and other traffic safety agencies from across the state for their commitment to traffic safety. The awards are for those who show outstanding service and dedication to accomplish the overall goal of Vision Zero, to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roads for the period of October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2025

Beyond the Traffic Stop
The Beyond the Traffic Stop Award is designed to recognize those officers who made outstanding cases resulting from a traffic stop taking place from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Child Passenger Safety Technician

The Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Award is designed to recognize CPS technicians and/or instructors for their commitment to child passenger safety from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Commemorative Coin
The Law Enforcement Commemorative Coin for Traffic Safety is designed to recognize officers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to traffic safety through a variety of efforts and achievements. This nomination should reflect the officer’s traffic safety efforts for the time period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Award was designed to recognize emergency responders for their commitment and dedication to keeping North Dakota roads safe from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Emerging Leader
The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a student who exemplifies the Vision Zero mission by taking initiative to make North Dakota’s roads safer for everyone. The nominee demonstrates outstanding leadership, creativity, and dedication to promoting traffic safety and positive behavior change among peers and community members. This nomination should reflect the student’s traffic safety efforts for the time period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Heroic Citizen
The Traffic Safety Heroic Citizen Award recognizes an individual or individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage and quick action to protect others from harm on North Dakota roads from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Infrastructure Safety - Individual
The Vision Zero Infrastructure Safety Award – Individual is designed to recognize an individual who has made outstanding contributions to promote or implement Safety Improvements or Programs on North Dakota’s State or local road system, at any phases of those improvements. The individual could be a private citizen, work for a governmental agency, part of the contracting industry, or an engineering consultant. Please read the eligibility requirements and criteria below. Eligibility dates are October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Infrastructure Safety - Program
The Vision Zero Infrastructure Safety Award – Program is designed to recognize organizations that have made a difference within their agency, community, or the state to be recognized. The program should be such that it implements or improves safety throughout the state, region, county, community, or organization regarding transportation related infrastructure. Recipients of this award have demonstrated long-term contributions to improve traffic safety. Eligibility dates are October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Infrastructure Safety - Project
The Vision Zero Infrastructure Award – Project is designed to recognize a project that improves safety in an area regarding transportation related infrastructure. The project should demonstrate a commitment to improve traffic, roadway improvement, bicycle/pedestrian, or a multi-modal project. The entity can submit a nomination for a project they have completed or constructed, or they can nominate another entity for the award. Eligibility dates are October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Honor Roll
The Traffic Safety Honor Roll Award allows individuals, teams and organizations that have made a difference within their agency, community, or the state to be recognized for efforts taking place from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Media
The North Dakota Traffic Safety Media Award is designed to recognize a reporter/news organization for their reporting on traffic safety from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025

Traffic Safety Officer of the Year
The Traffic Safety Officer of the Year Award is designed to recognize an officer who has demonstrated a commitment to enforcing traffic safety laws and promoting traffic safety aimed at reducing fatalities and serious injuries on North Dakota roadways. Nominees are officers who work to not only enforce laws, but to educate the public about critical behaviors, such as occupant protection, impaired driving, distracted driving, and speeding. This nomination should reflect the officer’s traffic safety efforts for the time period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

Vision Zero Outreach
The Vision Zero Outreach Award is for individual(s) and/or organization(s) who have gone above and beyond and actively play a role in spreading the message of Vision Zero to decrease motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries through their outreach and education for the time period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025

Vision Zero School of the Year
The Vision Zero Schools Award recognizes a school for its dedication to becoming a Vision Zero School and its efforts from October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.
